News Roundup from WSL – January 2020

It’s been an eventful start to the year here at WSL, read our  Newsbits update to see what our busy team have been up to during their first few weeks of 2020!

January has seen new projects getting underway including a mezzanine floor extension in Huddersfield. Yes we are back on the site of Rockshop Wholesale Ltd extending the mezzanine floor we originally installed in 2017 when they first relocated to Meltham Mills. The move has proved to be a real success, so much so that the rock specialist needs even more mezzanine floor! Look out for updates on this project and in the meantime you can read about our first project at the site here. Elsewhere WSL began the installation of a retail mezzanine floor in Bristol as our client who sells specialist sports products prepares to open another retail outlet whilst in Leeds our team began work on a carefully thought out warehouse racking reconfiguration project involving new and existing racking to enable more production within the same space.

It’s a heart investment

Although WSL has a number of fully trained workplace first aiders across the company we have invested further into the health and safety of our employees this month by bringing a defibrillator onto our premises. There is no legal requirement for this however, our proactive approach to health and safety lead us to placing a defibrillator within easy reach of anyone in the office or factory. This clever device can save lives and although we hope there’s never a time it will need to be used, the whole team is aware of its location should it ever be required.

Denim for Dementia

Our team donned their denim on Thursday 23rd January in a bid to raise money to help those living with the effects of dementia. Denim for Dementia is a fund raising event which sees local schools, GP surgeries, businesses, clubs and churches take part in wearing denim clothing whilst donating a minimum of £1 towards the cause. Any money raised will help people suffering from the effects of dementia including families, carers and the patients themselves.

Anniversary announcements

Congratulations to our Director Sophie Langdale who celebrates her 15th year working for WSL, although she has been learning the ropes in the family business since the age of four! Meanwhile Joanne O’Connor, our delightful receptionist and sorter outer has marked her 9th year with the company this month, just one year short of a decade!

Super inspector

As we reported earlier this month our most senior rack inspector achieved his highest number of inspections last year. There are no signs of him slowing down this year either as here in the office we have seen very little of Yannis. He has started the New Year with a full diary of inspections including a particularly large one which required him to stay over in Northamptonshire for two nights.

Our project management team and design team have received their asbestos awareness renewal certificates this month. Refresher training takes place every 12 months to ensure their knowledge and understanding remains up to date.
