A time-sensitive delivery to Milan proved no problem for WSL
Businesses often work to tight deadlines, but when you’re sourcing products from a supplier, you can’t always be guaranteed that everything will go according to plan.
When the inspiration for a great display came to furniture and lighting specialists Tom Dixon Design in April of this year, it was vital for the company to source materials and props that could be delivered on a short turnaround. However, with the ultimate destination being thousands of miles away at the Milan Museum of Design and Technology, this posed logistical issues that many suppliers would struggle to meet.
Not so for Warehouse Systems Ltd; working closely with the team at Tom Dixon, they realised that not only did this project need to be given priority, but they also had to ensure that the exhibition display could be implemented quickly and effectively by their overseas partners.
Fitting together the custom pallet racking puzzle
With such an exciting opportunity in their grasp, Tom Dixon approached WSL to create a custom built pallet racking system that would do their designer products justice – but rather than creating a fully assembled finished article, the system needed to be provided in various parts, to be fitted together much like a puzzle when it arrived in Italy.
The overall requirement was for 16 racking bays organised over 3 separate runs – items that simply couldn’t be shipped in their final form. In order to meet display requirements, the components also needed to be provided in the ‘raw’, uncoated and ungalvanised ready for a powder coating treatment prior to assembly.
While this was no problem for the experts at WSL, they were given just 7 days from the placement of the order to supply the goods and send them to the museum for installation. Certain that they could meet this challenge, they also went the extra mile to ensure their client’s complete satisfaction. Alongside the manufacture of the racking bays, the team also developed a customised guide so that the setup could be completed without any hitches, sending a full breakdown of product information too so that the installation team knew exactly what they were working with.
Kathryn Bell from Tom Dixon Design was delighted that what could have been a logistical nightmare had a dream outcome, commenting that she was very impressed with the quality and service provided by WSL’s Fred Proctor, who she found to be very honest and informative at every stage of the process. The end result was an effective display system that allowed them to showcase their creations in the best possible way, proving that WSL can rise to even the most time-sensitive challenges.
