Warehouse Systems Limited is working in partnership with Marks & Spencer in the rationalisation of their Distribution Network for Apparel & Home Furnishings.
M&S are getting closer to the opening of their new 495,000 sq ft Clothing & Home distribution centre at Welham Green (Hertfordshire) which will simplify its logistical operations. The transformation of their distribution network is designed to allow direct service to stores across the South East, providing excellent service and availability, known and expected by their customers.
The new site consists of two buildings, each with their own operational requirements. For these to run smoothly and efficiently day-to day, the individual design of each warehouse layout required careful planning and thought.
Here at WSL we took the time to consider factors that are specific to both buildings with the aim of transforming the empty shells into productive workspaces. Considering the potential flow of inventory, people and traffic as well as accessibility and space in each building, we were able to provide solutions which will assist M&S in achieving their goal of creating a very successful Clothing & Home Distribution Centre.
Arriving on site in June 2018, WSL have dedicated teams across both buildings working on the installation of those all-important storage solutions which include pallet racking, mezzanine floors, shelving and a garment hanging system. Our Leeds factory engineering team were busy manufacturing the mezzanine floors to the high standards required for a CE certified product. The multi-tier mezzanine floors are due to be finished on schedule in both buildings to allow the Go Live date to be achieved. WSL’s Project Director Brian Varley says
“As always the M&S team had some unique challenges for us, which we are pleased to have had the opportunity to meet and exceed their expectations”
