Your Cantilever Racking Project – What to Expect

Design

Carried out by a member of our Cantilever Racking Leeds design team, a free site survey is arranged at your convenience. During the visit our designer will take the opportunity to understand your inventory and operational needs whilst assessing your space. This will help guide the design to ensure the most effective solution is created saving you time, space and money. The design itself will be drawn up using computer assisted software ensuring preciseness and allowing you to visualise your potential solution in place.

Manufacture

On order placement, your design is transferred to our factory which sits under the same roof as our design team with every specific detail relayed to our engineering team. Manufactured to the very highest standards of quality and safety, your cantilever racking solution will be UKCA certified and produced with the generics of a Full SEMA Member. As our skilled engineers create your solution, you will be kept up to date on progress by your dedicated Project Manager who will put everything in place in preparation for installation.

Install

Once the manufacturing process is complete, your solution will be loaded and transported directly to your site where your WSL Project Manager and installation team will be ready and waiting. The parts will be off-loaded by the team and prepared before the installation process gets underway. Installing your cantilever racking system is a straight forward task making it a quick with least possible disruption to the surrounding operation. What is Cantilever Racking?

Cantilever racking is designed to do what pallet racking cant do when it comes to the effective storage of particularly long or bulky goods. With a lack of beams and end frames the none-restrictive structure provides the perfect cavity to place items of disproportionate size, shape, length and weight. The structure is highly robust with each arm capable of holding up to 5 tonnes whilst each upright can carry over 30 tonnes.

How Does Cantilever Racking Work?

The core structure consists of uprights which stand vertically having been secured onto a horizontal base to provide stability. This creates a robust base frame designed to accommodate multiple cantilevered arms which connect to and extend horizontally from the uprights. It’s on the arms where the goods such as long planks of timber are laid across, a process which can be done safely at height or when goods are heavy, using a standard fork lift truck (FLT).

What Is Cantilever Racking Made Of?

The components used to create the cantilever racking system are all steel, including the cantilever arms. This gives the structure a robust posture and stability, enabling the secure storage of heavy, large and bulky goods.

How Secure Are The Goods When Resting On The Cantilever Arms?

The steel cantilever arms will not slant under weight, however rounded items such as pipe for example, may be at risk of rolling along the arms an over the edge. If your goods are at risk of rolling from the arms, fixed or removable stoppers can be placed at the end of the arms to prevent the items rolling past the edge. Another solution would be to install 20 degree inclined arms to create a crook in which bundles of long, rounded items can be stored without the risk of rolling from the system.

Can Cantilever Racking Support Changing Needs?

Cantilever racking is a highly flexible solution with adaptability. Running the length of the uprights are grooves in which the arms can connect at any height. If your inventory needs change, the arms can be taken from the upright and then placed at a different location on the same upright to support loads of a different dimension.

Can Cantilever Racking Support Small, Rolled or reeled Goods?

WSL has the ability to design a solution for any unique need and this includes the design of tubular arms to support rolls of carpet for example, or spindles to incorporate reeled coil storage. For goods that are heavy, yet too small to sit safely across the arms, the items can be secured by fitting steel gratings or decking across the arms, creating a solid shelf. Whatever your individual requirements, our design capabilities combined with engineering talent means your solution is not compromised by our constraints.

Can Cantilever Racking Save Space?

Being the slim yet tall structure that it is, you gain maximum storage within a narrow floor surface area when using a cantilever racking system which can be built up to 10 metres high. The structure can be placed against the wall, saving the central floor space for other structures and equipment or where inventory volume is high, the system can be doubled up where two structures are placed back to back.

Is Cantilever Racking Suitable For Outdoor Use?

A common sight in builder yards and outside garden centres, cantilever racking is extremely durable making it a highly popular choice for outdoor use. To further add to the structures durability against outdoor elements, the parts can be dipped into a galvanised solution before being assembled on site. Galvanisation gives the structure an extra coat of durability, protecting it further from the outdoor elements. The goods stored on the structure may not have the same durability as the structure itself which s why a roof can be added to protect the goods from sunlight, rain and snow.
